WVSeniors Photo Contest

WVSeniors.org Announces new Photo Contest

Winning pictures will be featured in a 2006 West Virginia Senior Calendar

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVSeniors.org, the one-stop informational Web site for West Virginia ’s seniors, is again holding a contest to find the most creative photographs of senior citizens in the state. The best pictures will be used in a new promotional calendar due out in the fall. Winners will also receive a $100.00 gift certificate to Amazon.com.

The Center on Aging is encouraging participants to get creative. The calendar will reflect the beauty of West Virginia and the creativity of its senior citizens.

"We put together this contest to get West Virginia senior citizens and their community involved in learning about aging,” Richard J. Ham, MD, director of the WVU Center on Aging (CoA) said. “The WVSeniors project is committed to providing information to our elders so they can enjoy an empowering, healthy lifestyle. Being involved in this contest is just one way to draw attention to that.”

Photographs must include a senior citizen and some aspect of West Virginia lifestyle. Studio-style portraits or similar images should be avoided. Both amateur and professional photographers are encouraged to submit images; however, professional photographers are ineligible for gift certificates.

"We are excited about the submissions because we know that the photographs will represent West Virginia’s seniors in a great light,” said Maria Durbin, assistant director at the CoA.

Winning photographs will be published in the 2006 WVSeniors.org calendar. Twelve photographs will be chosen, one for each month of the year. All entries must be received by August 5, 2005.

Sponsors are also greatly needed to help complete the project. Last year, due to a lack of sponsorship, WV Seniors was not able to follow through with the contest. Those who entered last year will still be considered for the 2006 calendar contest.
